Not a great night, hazy and difficult to see Pleiades and Orion’s Belt at times. Even Sirius looked very dull. I thought it would be a poor night for DSOs so got the binoculars out to try for some of the Moore winter marathon objects.
Theta tauri are a pair of bright stars wedged like a crossbar in the triangle of the Hyades. I like the Hyades a lot anyway and it was easy to spot this bright pair.
M41 is an open cluster in Canis Major. The viewing notes said “visible to naked eye in really dark skies”. Given a hazy night in light polluted Limavady, I could just see it close to 2 stars using averted vision.
