Another great night with almost no moonlight. Leo and Virgo were directly in front of me so I decided to look at the Virgo cluster of galaxies again. I scouted the Messier and Caldwell lists first then worked through 12 new galaxies (forgot about Caldwell 36!) By the end of the evening, my dark adaption was so good that I could see a lot of nebulae and clusters such as Coma Berenices naked eye.
I tried out a dew shield with my scope tonight, mostly to see if it increased contrast – not sure, it was a very dark night. Maybe more useful under brighter skies.
