There was a lot of scudding cloud about this morning so I wasn’t planning to do anything too complicated this am.
I was getting my WO Zenithstar 420/71mm ready for trying to image Andromeda some night soon when it got a bit clearer so I thought I would see what it could manage.
My Lunt CaK wedge wouldn’t fit in the focuser at all but my Herschel wedge did. I attached a DSLR by a 2 inch T-piece but found the focal path through the Herschel wedge was just too long – couldn’t get to focal point.
I tried with a CCD and again couldn’t get to focal point. At last, I tried a 2x Barlow with the CCD and could get to focus about 1/2 cm from the stop.
The resultant image was okay but not as sharp and detailed as through my 1000/102 which isn’t surprising. Not sure there is a lot of potential for using the Zenithstar for solar work. Except, maybe as a travel scope.
